Diamanda LBD – violin
Borey Shin – accordion

Borey (NY/Boston) and Diamanda (Amsterdam/Boston) met at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where they studied and played with improvisers such as Anthony Coleman, Tanya Kalmanovitch, and many others, in many basements and occasionally The Stone and Issue Project Room. They also once took the most painful music history class in the world together. Diamanda plays violin in too many capacities. Borey composes, plays piano, synth, laptop and accordion.

2nd Set

Christian Ferlaino – alto saxophone
Natalio Sued – tenor saxophone
Adan Mizrahi – double bass
Tristan Renfrow – drums

‘The Bolognese-coming saxophonist Christian Ferlaino is active in Amsterdam with his band New Dog in which three nationalities are represented. Followers of the Dutch improv may know Ferlaino as baritone saxophonist in Pumporgan. In New Dog he plays alto saxophone, forming the front line with Natalio Sued on tenor sax. Together they play beautiful ensemble parts, which can be hefty and hard. The winds seem to be their reciprocal extension in terms of timbre and timing, so they can form a natural unity. Sued stands out again for his solid, fat tone. Tristan Renfrow is a beautiful, bright drummer, while bassist Adan Mizrahi has a relaxed, dry timing. The pieces, all by Ferlaino, usually have a tuneful, melodic theme and cover stylistically a large part of jazz history. The band is very agile and thus allows freer improvisation possible.’ ( Jazzism, dec. 2014)
